Etta May has performed her brand of clean-comedy on Oprah, Showtime, Comic Strip Live, MTV, and as a guest commentator on “CBS Sunday Morning,” Winner of the prestigious American Comedy Awards “Comic of the Year,” and so much more. In addition, she headlines the successful all-female comedy tour, “Etta May and the Southern Fried Chicks,” selling out theatres all over the country. Think Blue Collar Comedy Tour with better hair and a bigger attitude! In addition to television, Etta May is a regular on Sirius-XM Comedy Channels and the syndicated Bob & Tom radio show.

Before finding success as a stand-up comic, Etta wandered from dead-end job to dead-end job, including a 10-year stint as a school bus driver. She says she learned how to handle unruly kids by Armor-Alling the seats and slamming on the brakes all the way to school. Her theory: “Kind of hard to pick a fight with the kid in front of you when you’re just holding on for dear life.”

Then she decided to take a chance on herself and follow her dream. Lots of hard work and drive, and a few years later, she wins “Female Comic Of The Year” at the American Comedy Awards. It’s the American Story we are all told that you can become anything you set your mind to in this great country, and for Etta May, it worked!

“Authentic”…When it comes to the Tribute Band world, that word seems to be used a bit more than it should be. SkynFolks was formed as a result of some very devoted musicians who wanted to bring a little more to the game than what they’d seen of Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute bands. They also knew how discriminating and tough real Skynyrd fans can be, so they set their performance bar high…really high.

From the very beginning, every member of SkynFolks knew that this was something different from anything they’d done before. Brought together by luck, fate, devotion and drive, the members of SkynFolks pledged to create a band that would exactly reproduce the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd. No improvisation allowed – every part had to be played exactly like the original recordings. Constant practice honed the music like a razor. What emerged when they finished has never been done since the days of the original Skynyrd lineup. Totally authentic, accurate renditions of the music on the first 5 Lynyrd Skynyrd albums.

In the last eight years, SkynFolks has played in venues of all sizes, including festivals, theaters, clubs, private parties, and concert halls. From these performances, we’re blessed to have built a large, enthusiastic fan base that’s helped us grow so rapidly in such a short time; in fact, many fans have followed our performances to venues across the Southeast.

It’s been a labor of love for SkynFolks to provide the kind of high-quality, authentic experience that honors the legacy of Lynyrd Skynyrd. SkynFolks provides a home for hardcore Skynyrd fans, and as those fans will attest, “You need to see this band!”
